Disney California Adventure

Hyperion Theater

February 2001

The Hyperion is California Adventure's premier location for professional, large-scale theatrical presentations. It gained notoriety not long after the park opened with a highly successful musical extravaganza Kaboom which featured young people dancing, tumbling, and generally rushing about to music, accompanied by the largest uncontained explosions ever presented on stage.

At the time of this writing, the theater is playing host to another critically well received production: Aladdin, a Live Musical Spectacular. The show, with a running time of just under two hours, is indeed impressive. It features many songs (some of which are not in the animated feature), animatronic elephants, a giant robotic snake, and a Genie who looks, sounds, and acts nothing like Robin Williams but is half nude and blue.

Currently, California Adventure plans include a long run for the Aladdin show, followed by an all-new stage version of The Lion King, completely done with live animals.

Trivia: The theater was named for the airship in The Island at the Top of the World
