Disney California Adventure

Cars Land

June 2012

Although there has never been any doubt about Disney California Adventure's value and success, in 2011 Disney found it had $1.1 billion lying about that it didn't know what to do with, and decided to have some fun. Most of the money went to hand-craft the new Red Car Trolley attraction, but what was left was used to redecorate Sunshine Plaza into Buena Vista Street and, almost as an afterthought, create a new land based on one of Pixar's most popular films.

There was a lot of discussion about what the new land should be. "Toy Story Land" might be mistaken for a land dedicated to Babes in Toyland, "Incrediblesland" was too hard to pronounce, and "Upland" was taken. So Disney decided to go with their fourth choice, "Cars Land."

Cars Land is an intricately detailed representation of the town of Radiator Springs from Cars, but presented in realistic 3-D, just like Cars 2.
